The revelation that former LAPD anti-gang officer Anthony Razo shot himself outside his City Terrace home to defraud his insurance company left his colleagues angry and embarrassed. It also left them wanting their money back, reports The Voice (story on page 4). Officers from the Hollenbeck division where Razo worked as well as other people donated about $5,400 for him during a February 18 barbecue fundraiser held at the Hollenbeck Youth Center in Boyle Heights. A Hollenbeck officer told the Voice:
LAPD cops get burned over BBQ fundraiser
“How could he have let us prepare a BBQ fundraiser knowing what he had done? It’s disgusting.”
But there is a chance these folks will be getting their money back. As part of a plea deal with prosecutors, Razo agreed to return the $5,400 from the fundraiser.
