BOYLE HEIGHTS — A man and woman were killed and a third person was injured after the vehicle they were traveling in at a high-rate of speed crashed into the front porch of a home this afternoon on Pleasant Avenue near Echandia Street.
One person inside the home was evacuated by firefighters but was not injured, according to LAFD.
The LAPD is now investigating the matter to see if it was connected to any crime.
The vehicle was speeding southbound on Pleasant Avenue when it slammed into the front of a Victorian-style home and overturned on the porch at about 11 a.m., according to officials. One woman who was in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene; another male victim was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. A third passenger is being treated for his injuries.
“The building was actually taken off the foundation,” according to an LAFD official at the scene. “It was an incredible violent accident.”
Pleasant and Echandia have been blocked off as the investigation continues.
Update: Police told the L.A. Times that the driver’s foot may have gotten stuck on the gas pedal after he was fatally shot shortly before the crash.
