HIGHLAND PARK — Cookbook, the pint-sized Echo Park grocery, opened the doors today to a much more spacious market on Figueroa Street.
The new Highland Park shop would still seem small compared to a typical supermarket – or even a convenience store. But it’s twice the size of the original Echo Park location, said co-owner Marta Teegan, who was tending to customers at the new shop on opening day while partner Robert Stelzner worked the original location.
While much more spacious, the new Cookbook stocks much of the same high-quality and pricey produce, meats, cheeses and other items found in the original store. Like Echo Park, the Highland Park shop will be open every day from 8 am to 8 pm.
The new shop, housed in a renovated storefront with large windows, sits on a stretch of Figueroa that has seen the arrival of new restaurants, bars and boutiques.
Teegan and Stelzner opened their Echo Park shop five years ago in an Echo Park Avenue storefront.
“We’re happy to bring it to this side of the river,” Teegan said of the shop.
Cookbook Highland Park is at 5611 Figueroa Street.
