BOYLE HEIGHTS — Libros Schmibros, the nonprofit lending library and bookshop, has announced it’s moving. But it’s not going far – just across Mariachi Plaza and into the historic Boyle Hotel building.
The small store is currently located in one of the buildings that is for sale on the north side of the plaza. However, Libros Schmibros, which announced the upcoming move on Facebook and Twitter, did not state the reason for the change in location.
The new home for the lending library is at 103 N. Boyle Avenue in the former Boyle Hotel, a Victorian-era brick landmark that was renovated and reopened as an affordable housing complex. The new shop, which will share the ground floor with La Monarca bakery, is scheduled to open next month, according to a Libros Schmibros post on Facebook.
Libros Schmibros originally opened in 2010 a few blocks east on 1st Street. It was founded by David Kipen, the former literature director of the National Endowment for the Arts.
The Eastsider has contacted Libros Schmibros for more details about the move.
