A fruit cart vendor was back at work Monday afternoon at the corner of Glendale and Silver Lake boulevards – but it was not Carlos Molina. Molina was hospitalized late Friday after a car lost control and plowed into his sidewalk cart, said Eduardo, a friend and co worker who manned a new cart at the corner across from the Bank of America in Silver Lake. Erik Scott with the Los Angeles Fire Department said a fire truck and and rescue ambulance arrived at the scene at about 5 PM and transported at least one person to LA County USC Medical Center.
“He didn’t see the car coming – he was attending to a customer,” Eduardo said in Spanish. Eduardo said many people had come up to him on Monday asking about Carlos, a native of El Salvador had worked the corner since December. “The people ask, ‘What happened to him? Is he dead? Are his ribs fractured?'” While Eduardo was not sure what injuries Carlos sustained, he said his friend’s injuries were not serious and that he had already been released from the hospital. Carlos is expected to return once he is fully recovered, Eduardo said.
