Why wait until Halloween to enjoy some treats? The Village Bakery & Cafe in Atwater Village kicked off its “13 Days of Halloween” this week by baking up a batch of “Witches’ Fingers” (shortbread cookies topped by almond “fingernails”). Owner Barbara Monderine said different “scary/delicious” treats will be added every day, including monster eyeballs, skeleton gingerbread, bat brownies and mummy rice krispy treats. Come Halloween, all 13 treats will be available.

- Echo Park Independent Co-op will host an Egyptian-themed night of art and costumes on Saturday, Oct. 22 as part of the opening of a pop up store featuring the apparel and accessories of Howl Clothing and Coven Construction.
- Silver Lake’s Tantra restaurant will reopen on Monday as Naya, with an Indian-California fusion menu featuring such items as “seared tuna with roasted cumin-coriander and an avocado raita, and a fried-curried goat cheese salad,” according to Eater L.A.
- When it comes to Central Vietnamese cuisine, the L.A. Weekly’s Jonathan Gold recommends Xoia Vietnamese Eats in Echo Park for banh xeo — “crunchy, turmeric-yellow crepes stuffed with bean sprouts” — and “the thick, springy mi quang, noodles with peanuts, banana blossoms and rice crackers in a puddle of yellow broth, are very good.”
